IASTM Massage Tool - Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation

What is IASTM?

IASTM is a manual therapy approach to musculoskeletal injuries using specifically designed tools. It’s basically a tool to help me get to the issue and work it better. IASTM - Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation, may also be called ASTYM or Graston.

Why do we use them?

If you've had a treatment with me you'll know I'm a big fan of my massage tools and use them in pretty much every treatment. Why? Because:

  • IASTM introduces a new stimuli to the nervous system, drawing attention to the area through friction and taking the focus away from the pain

  • It deliberately creates microtrauma to facilitate healing

  • The reduction in pain creates change in muscle tone/a reduction in tension and can improve range of movement

  • It's potentially releasing soft tissue adhesions and fascial restrictions

  • IASTM can help desensitise the tissue

See for yourself!
