We are open for Lockdown 2.0

We are open for all your soft tissue massage needs this lockdown

Those of you that come for regular soft tissue work in Brighton and Hove know and tell us how valuable this type of treatment is for your health and wellbeing.

I'm thrilled to be able to let you know that both myself and Hannah E are able to continue to treat and support you throughout this November 2020 lockdown.

We assure you that we have all the necessary Covid precautions in place to keep you safe, and your health is our number one priority. Both Hannah E and myself have completed the most recent WHO training in infection prevention and control.

Being able to remain open throughout this lockdown is also a massive breakthrough for our industry.

I can't thank my governing body enough for fighting and succeeding in getting us Level 4 and 5 soft tissue therapists added to the therapist's professional's category, on the register for classification of industries, along with physiotherapists.

This is a big milestone for our industry. Here in the UK, sports massage therapists are not required to be regulated by a governing body.

Training ranges from fast track weekend courses providing a level 3 qualification, to multiple years long courses which provide much more in-depth training (and the therapist will hold a much higher, more holistic qualification at Level 5).

With such a variety of training going on, I can see how it has been unclear where we fall as an industry. As Hannah E and myself both hold a level 5 qualification, are members of governing bodies ,and undertake regular, continual personal development courses, we’re over the moon to be recognised as healthcare professionals.

During lockdown we are only able to treat people with genuine healthcare needs. Conditions which may indicate treatment during lockdown are:

- Unbearable pain levels

- Inability to perform activities of daily living

- Inability to sleep

- Inability to work (frontline workers)

- If you would otherwise feel the need to see another healthcare professional or GP

In addition to our usual measures (please see previous blog post here) you can expect:

- The door to be left ajar at all times to maximise ventilation (heating will be right up and the heated couch on). It’s still really cosy in the treatment room but if you wish, please bring a blanket or thick towel for extra warmth

- Due to the guidelines of Hannah E’s governing body, appointment times with her are reduced to a maximum of 45 minutes just during this lockdown (you can add on 15 minutes of medical acupuncture with Hannah W if you wish to take your appointment time up to an hour). This minimises contact with any one person.

- Gloves will be worn by your therapist at all times

Hannah W is currently off with a shoulder injury until the beginning of December. Her online calendar is open from then if you want to get an appointment booked in with her.

If you have any questions or are unsure about whether to book in or not please email us or you can book in for an appointment through our online system.
